It’s an interesting way to do journalism in a social media environment.

The online Huffington Post wants to do a story about Tuesday evening’s massive explosion on the Plaza.  Without any reporters actually based in Kansas City, the popular blog has sent an email to all its readership asking for help.

A Message For Our Readers In Kansas City February 20, 2013 Hello from HuffPost Open Reporting -

This is a one-time email to our readers in Kansas City.

We were saddened to learn about the explosion Tuesday evening that killed one person, injured at least 15 others, and destroyed JJ’s restaurant.

If you or anyone you know has been affected, we’d like to hear your story.

Send us a note or a photo at openreporting@huffingtonpost.com, or just reply to this email, and help us show readers what’s happening in your community today.

Thanks for your help, The HuffPost Open Reporting team

    PRESS CLUB TOPIC
This is exactly the topic the Kansas City Press Club will be discussing at it’s meeting next Monday night. For more details visit the KC Press Web site at http://www.spjchapters.org/kcpress.

    KC PRESS CLUB
Some of us are glad to learn that KC still has a Press Club, and that they actually meet.

I’m guessing the alumni far outnumber the active members.
