Sports Journalist of Year
Summary:  Congratulations to Jack Harry, Sports Director at KSHB-TV41, who will receive the Joe McGuff "Sports Journalist of the Year" award, the most prestigious sports media award in Kansas City.  McGuff was a long-time sports editor at the Kansas City Star and given credit for some of the largest sports decisions in area history.
The write-up below is from the Greater Kansas City Sports Commission Web site and should also mention Harry provides daily reports on the KCMO Morning Show.  06-19-2007

Journalist of the year

Jack Harry, KSHB-TV 41, 38 The Sports Spot, 810 WHB
A legend in Kansas City, sportscaster Jack Harry has been covering sports in the area for the past 32 years. Jack joined NBC Action News in June of 2002 and was named Sports Director shortly thereafter. As Sports Director, Jack covers sports for the 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts on NBC Action News, and hosts 38 Sports Spot on sister station 38 The Spot.

Prior to joining NBC Action News, Jack was Sports Director at KCTV where he had served in the position since 1978. In the early years of his career, Harry served as Sports Director at WDAF, a position he held from 1970-73. He started his broadcasting career in Quincy, Illinois working as a disc jockey for WGEM and as Sports Director at KHQA-TV.

Over the course of his career, Jack has been play-by-play announcer for a number of athletic events, hosted various sports shows, served as a sporting analyst, and covered numerous World Series games, Final Four tournaments, and PGA Tournaments. Long time Chiefs fans will remember Harry as host of the Hank Stram Show, and subsequently the Marv Levy Show.

In addition to being Sports Director at NBC Action News, Jack can be heard on Sports Radio 810 WHB as a weekly guest commentator on Between the Lines with Kevin Kietzman, and as host of a weekly Chiefs post game show.

Summary:  Bottom Line Communications' principal John Landsberg writes a monthly column for Kansas City Sports & Fitness magazine and wrote his opinions in his February 2007 column about KC's top sports folks.

To round out local sports media stars none in TV can hold a candle to Jack Harry at KSHB-TV41. The rest of the TV sports talkers are just TelePrompTer readers.
