Sometimes things don’t always go as planned on TV, particularly when the video isn’t available for a story being reported.
That happened Thursday night at the end of the 9 p.m. broadcast on WDAF-Fox 4. But that didn’t stop veteran WDAF-Fox 4 anchors John Holt and Susan Hiland from simply improvising what the video would have showed.
The two have worked together for years and they didn’t break stride when the video for their story didn’t appear. They simply re-enacted what the video would have showed.
When the hilarious story concluded Hiland took a bow.
Holt announced to viewers, “I smell an Emmy!!”

GOOD JOB
This really is funny! Good job by John and Susan.
EMMY?
I smell something, too; it’s not an Emmy.
TWO TALENTED ANCHORS
This shows two really talented news anchors covering for someone else’s screw-up, not getting flustered or angry, not blaming anyone else or saying “This is live TV, folks”, just carrying on to the absolute best of their abilities and talents.
It also sets an example for news teams everywhere, showing them how to work together to get the job done, in the best possible way.
John is a very bright buy, and Susan is a much better talent than most people realize. I know, I have worked with them both.
