“Sports Radio 102.5 “The Fan” officially launched at midnight in Kansas City (and nationwide) and is now the third sports talk station in the market.

The Cumulus-owned station replaced the All-Comedy channel “Funny 102.5,” and features national programming 24/7 from the CBS Sports Radio Network.  The station will reportedly add local hosts in the future.

The network will have more than 100 stations.

It will be the third sports talk station in the Kansas City market with Entercom’s KCSP 610AM and Union Broadcasting’s sports talk leader WHB 810 AM firmly established. Notable hosts on “The Fan” include Tiki Barber, John Feinstein, Jim Rome and Doug Gottlieb.

Ironically, WHB’s veteran talker Soren Petro will be paired against Jim Rome again with Petro on from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Rome from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.  A few years ago KCSP had Rome’s syndicated show against Petro and dropped it due to poor ratings.

One familiar voice for Kansas Citians will be heard from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. as Damon Amendolara  (“D.A.”) will be handling the overnight slot.

Amendolara was with KCSP 610 Sports for five years after the station was launched in September 2003. He began as an evening anchor and then was the host of the popular morning drive show until he departed in 2008 for Miami.  In less than a year he moved to WBZ-FM in Boston and joined “The Fan” in December.

    DA FAN
Can’t wait to hear DA again. I liked him when he was on 610 sports. So where is the All Comedy Chanel going John?

I believe All-Comedy is gone forever.

        FAN OF COMEDY STATION
That is too bad. The comedy station was a great addition to the line-up. A third sports station in a town where the only winning teams in the area get very little to no air-time is a bit much. Guess I’ll be changing my presets again.

    Thanks John. Love the website

    NOT REALLY A STATION
102.5 is a 250 watt translator that can’t be heard on the west side of town . This is a joke even referring this as a “station.” Programming wise it’s nationally syndicated line-up of “who cares sports” Who wants to hear about New York NBA basketball and Boston Hockey? BTW, DA was terrible when he was here in KC. Loved the sound of his own voice and never took calls. Overnights will be perfect.

    ENOUGH SPORTS STATIONS
That’s really a shame. There’s more than enough sports stations and the comedy station was one me and everyone I know listened to. We will all be changing our presets…
