Jeff Vaughn, who left KSHB-TV in Novemer 2009 to become the evening news anchor at KENS 5-TV in San Antonio, is out at the Belo-owned station, according to his Facebook post.
“As of today, I no longer work for KENS5,” Vaughn posted. “Although it was an enjoyable experience at KENS-TV, I am looking forward to the next chapter in my life. Most of all I will miss delivering the news to the wonderful people of San Antonio, who have embraced and supported my family since we arrived in 2010.”
Vaughn, a Kansas State graduate, had a major challenge in January 2010 at KENS trying to succeed Chris Marrou, a veteran news anchor who was retiring from the station after 36 years on the air.
Vaughn had been morning anchor of NBC Action News Today and NBC Action News Midday from January 2007 to December 2009. Prior to his work in Kansas City, he was a weekend morning anchor and general assignment reporter at WDIV-TV, the NBC affiliate in Detroit. Vaughn has Texas roots as an anchor and reporter at KCBD-TV in Lubbock and as a reporter at KMID-TV in Midland.

SHOULD HAVE KEPT VAUGHN
I agree, KENS should have gotten rid of Deborah Knapp and Sarah Lucero and KEPT Jeff Vaughan. His news reporting was clear, smooth and error free. He was not given a fair chance.
We met him in the SA airport, going for an interview in another city and wished him well. Sorry KENS made another bad decision.

What a farce! KENS didn’t give Vaughn the chance to increase ratings, as they kept Deborah Knapp and Sarah Lucero on as co-anchors. They should have got rid of Lucero and Knapp, and either left him solo, or brought in someone else. As long as they keep Lucero and Knapp, in my opinion, they will not up their ratings with another new guy. Vaughn deserved better.

He took over for a LEGEND in this market, and did so with style, class and, most of all, talent. The people in charge of Belo are IDIOTS! We will miss you Jeff!

Jeff Vaughn was a tremendous asset to KENS and will be sorely misse, the powers that be who made that decision missed the mark big time as seen again with the relacement who in my opinion, does not rise to Mr. Vaughns standard at all.

Jeff wasn’t the problem at Kens, I enjoyed watching him. Sarah isn’t the problem either. But they have GOT to do something with both their weather and sports anchors. Bill Taylor drives me nuts, he doesn’t know what the weather is even if he looks out the window. And Reinagle….he only knows 2 things to report on…Spurs and Cowboys. Doesn’t matter if its off season for one of them, they will still have interviews and outlooks until the next preseason starts. Absolutely no depth in that department either, as I think Reinagle makes sure his underlings are worse than he is and ensures that they report the same crap. At least there are some quality people behind Bill Taylor.

I agree totally about Vaughn being a very professional newsman;Sara Lucero has got to go,she is very annoying,so is Bill Taylor;stop trying to make jokes; you dont have what it takes.Reinagle,Dan Cook protege’,is time to replace him.I think I got it; Kens does not want exellence; but mediocraty.

VAUGHN IS GONE!
I thought maybe he was on vacation or something… Then I was like “where the hell is this guy?”. So I started digging through the KENS 5 Facebook page and found out he’s gone. Really pisses me off. You get used to a news anchor, and you stay with them. I know I sound like an old man, but I’m not, I just watch the local news in the evening.
PERSONALITY AND WORKING RELATIONS
In the majority of cases like this it appears it comes down to personality and working relation issues with the bosses. One day you’re a hero and the next day you’re a bumb.
I enjoyed watching Jeff deliver the news. He was very objective.
DEVASTATED ABOUT VAUGHN
I have been missing Jeff Vaughn over the last weeks and finally did a Google on him, and am devastated to learn that he’s no longer at KENS. He had some incredibly big shoes to fill and I think he did a great job of filling them and made the position his own. He is decent eye candy, too! As was Chris Marrou. New guy… Not so much. I’ll miss Jeff and will likely go back to Beamer on Channel 4 WOAI. (I’m not a big fan of WOAI’s hiring/firing practices, either, since they hired Alex Flores, the plagiarist last year. I had to give up the Today show because of him. Yech! ! !)
Good luck, Jeff! You were an asset to San Antonio. It was hard to tell you weren’t FROM here! You fit right in.
REPLACING A LEGEND
I liked Jeff too, especially since he had the enviable task of replacing a legend. Lucero and report the news as if the world was coming to an end, too stiff and over dramatic. I may try channel 12.
VAUGHN TOO POLISHED
Jeff Vaughn was too polished for Kens-5 anyway.
He should be doing world news (and we will probably see him there someday). Sure liked you Jeff.
I wouldn’t get rid of Lucero or Knapp though.
Both are very likeable especially Lucero.

SHOCKED
I was also shocked to see Jeff Vaughn gone. He is a complete professional and filled the “legend’s” shoes flawlessly . The problem is Sarah lucero. She is so wooden. I am not getting the dramatic news delivery input others see in her. She is flat.
I agree, Jeff Vaughn should be at a major news station. He is that talented. I started watching WOAI today. Always liked randy Beamer and lone discovering I like Elsa Ramon too

TIME FOR CHANGE
I enjoyed Jeff’s reporting of the news. While I like Sarah and Deborah; it is time for a change. I’d move the morning anchor Sarah to the prime slot. I like Bill Taylor, but Joe and crew need a makeover. The overall quality and depth of reporting has fallen over the years. Either through bad editing or reporting, you never quite get the entire story. There is no follow through and/or variation in what’s being reported. It’s one car crash after another. That’s not news.
Sports coverage needs to expand regionally and add more depth and variety. The Cowboys are old news and unless the Spurs fire Pop or Duncan retires; there’s no new news here.
they need to fire the GM and producers of the news cast.

I, too, was so-o-o dissappointed to see Jeff gone. I am really going to miss him because I think he is very professional and has a very pleasing personality as an anchor. I think Sarah and Deborah are okay, but I hate watching them stand beside the anchor desk while the male anchor sits. They look so stiff and uncomfortable and it makes it hard to listen to them. Kens5, you would do well to see if you can re-hire Jeff–you made a ba-a-ad mistake in allowing him to get away.
KENS DOES IT AGAIN
I had been watching Chris Marrou since I was 5 and when he retired it was heartbreaking but then Jeff Vaughn came along and I was in my comfort zone again. Now, one night I didn’t see Vaughn but this other guy and i’m like, who the heck is this guy?? Well, I am angry at KENS 5 for doing this yet again to a great anchor and instead keeping that SNOB/MEAN Deborah Knapp! I will either watch another station or just not watch the news any more!
POOR DECISION
Kens 5 made an extremely poor decision. Jeff Vaughn was extremely professional & excellent replacement to fill Chris M place. Kens 5 powers at bee are extremely ignorant! The low ratings are due to your other anchors who hype things up even people who die in accidents! They do know how to adjust tone to match stories idiots. We cannot hire him back, but we can help hit the pockets of mgmt by reducing the ratings please DO NOT WATCH KENS 5!

Jeff Vaughn was hired to replace an icon in San Antonio…He did this professionally and with class. He made the change “almost” transparent as an anchor. Jeff, best of luck in your future endeavors.

I can’t believe they replaced Jeff Vaughan – finally someone who wasn’t local and had a view outside of the “River” city.
I watched him and thoroughly enjoyed the news when Susan Lucero was out having a baby.
He was nice looking and seemed like a genuinely nice guy.

DISAPPOINTED AT KENS
I am so disappointed concerning the decisions that Kens makes….First No explaination why Vicky Buffalino..left….then to let go of Jeff Vaughn…..definately nice to look at…great newsman…who is next…. I dont like to run down the ability or character of another….I wont talk bad of the ones that are left…I really like morning co anchor Sarah Forgany….or is she still there..???? …But when I turn T.V. on and I dont see them….I immediately think oh no who did they get rid of now….Did ‘nt want to waste the space so I thought I would throw out all the complaints….!!!!!
